Rockford 6-year-old girl with rare disorder hoping to win adaptive bike

ROCKFORD, Mich. — Alexis Truax, 6, is 1 of 14 in the world that has a specific gene mutation on her RARB gene.

It has affected her vision, muscle tone. She cannot sit, stand, or walk on her own and has problems with cognitive development.

Alexis' mom Sarah says she is the happiest and goofiest girl. She loves to be outside as much as she can: swimming, swinging, and going for stroller rides.

Biking used to be at the top of their list until Lexi got too big to be carried around so this bike will allow them to take her for ice cream or check out local shops again.

Her family entered her into the Great Bike Giveaway contest and is hoping Alexis can win a special bike that will convert into an on-the-spot wheelchair.
