BOWNE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man riding a motorcycle has died after crashing into an SUV today in Bowne Township.

At about 12:45 p.m., police were dispatched to a fatal crash on Alden Nash Avenue Southeast near 64th Street Southeast, according to the Michigan State Police Rockford Post this evening.

The 2005 Ford Explorer was traveling north on Alden Nash and turning left into a business as the motorcycle was traveling south on Alden Nash, according to a preliminary investigation.

The SUV turned in front of the motorcycle, and the motorcycle was unable to avoid hitting the Explorer, MSP said.

The motorcyclist was thrown off the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Explorer was driven by a 47-year-old Springfield man. The motorcycle was driven by a 44-year-old Wayland man.

Police don't believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted by the Kent County Sheriff's Department, Bowne Township Fire & Rescue, Life E.M.S. and J & K Roadside Services.
