Kentwood murder suspect arrested in Nebraska

KENTWOOD, Mich. — The suspect in a murder out of Kentwood is in custody in Nebraska. Now local authorities are working to bring him back to Michigan.

The Kent County prosecutor authorized a charge of open murder, along with a count of unlawful driving away of an automobile against Fredy Bautista. He's accused of killing Deonlanda Gancino Galvez earlier this month.

KPD found Galvez’s body August 10, 2020. She was 45 when she died.

Kentwood detectives identified Bautista as a person of interest in the case. Officers with Nebraska State Patrol found him days after the killing.

Bautista is also facing a car theft charge in Nebraska. According to the Kent County Prosecutor's Office, Bautista waived his extradition hearing.
