Credit union robbery in 2019 gets man 36 months in federal prison

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich — Gilbert Chrispin Noel Jr was sentenced Oct. 5, 2020, to 36 months in federal prison for the robbery of the Lake Michigan Credit Union in Cutlerville in 2019.

Noel, 57, of Wayland, became a suspect during investigation of the robbery at 675 68th St. SW in Byron Township on June 11, 2019.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the Cutlerville robbery when they learned of similar robbery at the Lake Michigan Credit Union in Wyoming on February 14, 2019, and a later heist at the Chemical Bank in Middleville on November 26, 2019.

In cooperation with the Wyoming Police Department, the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI, investigators identified Noel as the suspect. He was charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
