GRPD has 4 gun calls overnight, including a serious shooting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Police were a busy bunch, responding to four gun-related incidents Friday night and Saturday morning.

Included among those was one shooting where a woman was seriously wounded.

That call came in at 8:34 p.m. Friday, when Grand Rapids Police Department officers responded to a report of approximately 20 gunshots being fired, individuals hollering and three vehicles fleeing the area in the 2000 block of Kalamazoo Avenue SE.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that a shooting victim had just arrived at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Officers contacted the female victim at the hospital. She was listed in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the neck, but her injures were not considered to be life-threatening.

Officers also located 14 9mm bullet casings at the shooting scene.

Police said there was no suspect or vehicle information.

Another shooting occurred at 2:12 a.m. Saturday, when GRPD responded to a report that someone had been shot in the 200 block of Barnett Street NE. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a victim with one gunshot wound in each ankle. The male victim was uncooperative and said he was walking when an unknown vehicle drove past and he was shot.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Butterworth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers located 16 bullet casings at the shooting scene.

Police said there was no suspect or vehicle information.

At 10:37 p.m. Friday, GRPD responded to the 100 block of Hall Street SW on a report of approximately 15 gunshots being fired. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located five 9mm bullet casings in a parking lot, but no victims or property damage were found.

At 8:59 p.m. Friday, GRPD responded to a report that person had fired a gunshot through the front door of a home after an altercation in the 1100 block of Grandville Avenue SW. The investigation showed that the incident began as a verbal dispute between three people. The suspect eventually left after shooting a hole through the front door and directly toward where another person had been.

Nobody was injured.

Police said they are searching for a suspect that is known to them.
