Update: Mercy Health Saint Mary's clarified their Facebook post, telling FOX 17 this is not the first COVID-19 patient to be discharged, but this patient was the first person to be admitted to the hospital for COVID-19.
Mercy Health Saint Mary's says they discharged the first patient with COVID-19 from critical care, Wednesday.
In a Facebook post they said, "This is what our remarkable health care colleagues on the front lines of COVID-19 are fighting for. #YouAreRemarkable."
After the patient is pushed out in a wheelchair in a hallway lined with applauding nurses, he turns and says through his hospital mask, "Just thank you for saving my life. It means everything to me. I don't know what else to say but thank you."
