GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Firefighters say a fire broke out at a Heritage Hills home in Grand Rapids.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department rushed to the scene of a fire at a home off Cherry Street and Morris Avenue.

Calls started coming in at around 7:30 p.m.

Firefighters say say the fire was found on the third floor of the Heritage Hills home, which was a multi-story apartment building.

"What is the concern with this that once it gets up into the attics and in the walls, we're gonna chase it around," said Battalion Chief Ed Braman. "Anybody that lives in Heritage Hills or ben in a house knows how high the ceilings are and how they've built."

The house included 21 units.

"As soon as we realized it had twenty-one units, honestly, we made one heck of knock-down," said Braman.

Firefighters instantly responded to the third floor and brought it under control.

Only three units were affected, said the battalion chief.

He says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Battalion Chief says no one was injured- and one rescue was made.

"One cat was rescued," he added, "Oxygen was administered, and it seems to be doing well now."

According to the Heritage Hill Association, the home is known as the Morris Manor, built in 1988 by the Gilbert Brothers, who were part of a prominent family at that time. After World War 11, developers almost tore down the Morris Manor, but ultimately decided to instead convert the historic house into apartments.
