Dozens of shell casings left in wake of shooting near Joe Taylor Park

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — More 40 casing are part of the evidence of a large number of shots fired Wednesday night in Grand Rapids.

Police responded to Joe Taylor Park, finding 30 casing on Baxter Street at the edge of Joe Taylor Park. Another 14 were found in an arch from Diamond Avenue to Bemis Street.

Officers spotted a vehicle speeding away from the area just after 11 p.m. The car crashed about a mile east of the park on Wealthy Street at Gladstone Avenue. The suspects inside ran. 1 person was tracked down with the help of an officer from East Grand Rapids.

About 20 minutes after the first call to 9-1-1, a man with a gunshot wound showed up at the hospital. He told police he was driving on Logan Street near Diamond Avenue when he was hit. The 25-year-old is expected to survive.
