GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police have charged a Grand Rapids man with murder and child abuse after an 8-month-old boy was found dead Wednesday night.

At 8:08 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive infant at 936 Front Ave. NW. The child was transported by ambulance to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids where he was pronounced dead.

On Thursday, an autopsy was performed at the Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office and the baby’s death was ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head.

The boy was identified as Josiah Lamarr Guyton.

On Friday, GRPD detectives arrested Jermaine Abron, 25, of Grand Rapids, who was dating the infant’s mother. He was charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse.

Abron is being held at the Kent County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court at 61st District Court in Grand Rapids on Monday.
