HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A motorcyclist sustained injuries after being rear-ended by a Jeep northbound on US 31 towards James Street.

Police responded to the crash around 8:04 p.m. and their on-scene investigation showed that the Jeep failed to stop for traffic backing up.

The 2010 Triumph motorcycle had been slowing for the signal when the Jeep struck from behind, throwing the operator from the bike into the median.

The motorcyclist had been wearing a helmet and was taken to Holland Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

However, police booked the driver of the 2010 Jeep into the Ottawa County Jail under suspicion of operating under the influence of alcohol.

Both vehicle operators were male, 21-year-old Kentwood residents.

The crash remains under investigation.
