Eminem faced a home intruder in the living room of his Clinton Township home.
Clinton Township police say the break-in happened in the Manchester Estates gated community near Heydenreich Road near Cass Avenue at 4:00 a.m. on April 5. Officers say the intruder allegedly used a paving stone to smash a kitchen window and climb into the house.
Police the suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Matthew David Hughes. Police say Hughes is homeless.
"He doesn’t have an address, he put he’s homeless and like I said, he’s still sitting in the Macomb County Jail.”
According to police, Eminem was woken up by the noise from the break-in. He then allegedly came face-to-face with the intruder, and engaged the man in conversation.
Eminem then called for security guards who came to his aid and detained the Hughes and called police.
Hughes has been charged with first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of a building.
Police say they’ve dealt with overzealous fans trespassing on the star’s property before — but this is a first.
“Never, never had any problems. We’ve had people, you know, come over there, and everybody knocks on the door and they want to see Eminem. That’s why he had security 24/7.”
Hughes could be facing up to 20 years in jail if he is deemed mentally fit to stand trial.
We reached out the Eminem’s publicist, but he had no comment. He did clarify that security was awake and in front of the house at the time.
TMZ originally reported that security was sleeping, but the publicist says that’s not true.
