KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A woman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a voter at an absentee ballot box on Tuesday, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
They say the incident occurred on Stockbridge Avenue, where the suspect was reportedly caught on video grabbing the 74-year-old victim, throwing him onto the ground before striking him repeatedly.
“In Kalamazoo, we will not tolerate any type of voter interference and we have a plan to ensure every vote is counted and every voter can exercise his or her right safely,” says KDPS Chief Vernon Coakley.
KDPS says the motive for the attack is unknown, adding that the assailant may have been experiencing mental health issues. Both the victim and the suspect have been transported to a hospital.
