When the Trump administration announced that the Justice Department would be expanding a crime-fighting initiative that involved sending federal agents to Cleveland, Milwaukee and Detroit, some thought it was an entirely new operation.

But Detroit Police Chief James Craig says Operation LeGend is actually an expansion of Operation Relentless Pursuit, which was sparked in December 2019 when Attorney General William Barr wanted to team up with DPD in their work to combat violent crime.

And, as part of that initiative, federal agents began working with Detroit police in early 2020 to try to further bring down violent crime including gangs and gun violence.
