Michigan reports 616 new coronavirus cases

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 94,278.

The number of cases increased 616 from yesterday, when there were 93,662 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 477 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,349 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased nine from yesterday, when there were 6,340 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 15 new deaths.

Statewide, 67,778 people have recovered from the virus as of Aug. 14. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 5,507,556 cases, and there have been 172,511 deaths — while 1,898,159 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
