Michigan reports 5,937 new COVID-19 cases

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 421,137.

The number of cases increased 5,937 from Wednesday, when there were 415,200 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. On Wednesday, the state reported 4,905 new cases.

The state says Thursday afternoon there have been 10,395 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 182 from Wednesday, including 132 identified in a records review, when there were 10,213 deaths. On Wednesday, the state reported 191 new deaths.

Statewide, 197,750 people have recovered from the virus as of Dec. 8. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 15,483,674 cases, and there have been 290,992 deaths — while 5,404,018 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
