LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 149,392.
The number of cases increased 1,586 from yesterday, when there were 147,806 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 2,909 new cases -- over Monday and Sunday.
The state says there have been 7,053 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.
The number of deaths has increased 22 from Saturday, when there were 7,031 deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 21 new deaths -- over Monday and Sunday.
Statewide, 109,539 people have recovered from the virus as of Oct. 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."
In the U.S., there are 8,258,568 cases, and there have been 220,806 deaths — while 3,272,603 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
