Juvenile detention center in Kent County confirms 5 cases of coronavirus

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two residents and three staff members at the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center have tested positive for the coronavirus.

All of the individuals are in quarantine, according to Lori Lathan, public relations director of Kent County, this afternoon.

The center has a 69-bed capacity and 104 staff, such as school, medical and mental health personnel, according to its website.

The center temporarily detains youth who are awaiting a court outcome or transfer to another jurisdiction or agency.
