GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Catholic Diocese for Grand Rapids canceled all public Masses through April 30th as Governor Whitmer is expected to extend her Stay Home order.
Bishop Walkowiak announced the cancellation which includes all liturgical and devotional services Wednesday in a letter to parishioners.
"I fully understand the gravity of these extensions in the life of the Church and the great sacrifices everyone is making without public Masses," the Bishop said, giving dispensation for all Catholics within the Grand Rapids Diocese. "This decision, along with the many others made before it, has not been undertaken without prudent consideration."
Bishop Walkoviak thanked all healthcare workers for their courage in the face of COVID-19 and all Catholics adhering to the Stay Home order.
Mass will still be aired on FOX 17 from St. Andrews Cathedral, including Good Friday and Easter Sunday, and streamed live on grdiocese.org. Anyone with questions is encouraged to reach out to the diocesan website.
The governor's press conference is scheduled for Thursday at 3 and will be aired on FOX 17.
