Michigan reports 539 new confirmed coronavirus cases

MICHIGAN — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 102,017.

The number of cases increased 539 from yesterday, when there were 101,478 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon.

The state says there have been 6,473 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 8 from yesterday, when there were 6,465 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 21 new deaths.

Statewide, 76,151 people have recovered from the virus as of Aug. 21. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are more than 5,991,100 cases, and there have been 182,752 deaths — while 2,101,326 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
