GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On the first day that movie theaters can reopen in Michigan, Celebration Cinema plans to start showing films in six locations on Friday, more than six months after the company closed down because of the coronavirus.
Theaters opening on October 9 include:
- Celebration Cinema at Studio Park
- Celebration Cinema North
- Celebration Cinema Rivertown
- Celebration Cinema Lansing
- Celebration Cinema Crossroads
- Celebration Carousel
Screens in Mount Pleasant, Benton Harbor, and Celebration South will remain dark for now, but the company says it will be a matter of weeks until they reopen.
Celebration Cinema says it is following a set of health and safety guidelines called CinemaSafe. The voluntary plan goes beyond CDC recommendations and received approval from Dr. Anthony Fauci, according to a release.
“We’ve been working towards this day in collaboration with our entire industry,” says JD Loeks, president of Studio C. “We appreciate the importance of getting the details right to provide safety and comfort for our team and guests.”
Movie-goers will notice reduced seating availability, more spacing between groups, use of masks by staff, and frequent cleaning. Celebration says cash will not be accepted at ticket or concession counters. The company is temporarily waiving the online convenience fees for any tickets purchased online.
