81,621 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 81,621.

The number of cases increased 734 from yesterday, when there were 80,887 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 715 new cases.

The state says there have been 6.199 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 8 from yesterday, when there were 6,191 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 19 new deaths.

Statewide, 57,502 people have recovered from the virus as of July 24. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 4,496,737 cases, and there have been 152,074 deaths — while 1,414,155 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
