79,176 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 79,176.

The number of cases increased 669 from yesterday, when there were 78,507 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 488 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,170 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 16 from yesterday, when there were 6,154 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 5 new deaths.

Statewide, 57,502 people have recovered from the virus as of July 24. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 4,309,230 cases, and there have been 148,298 deaths — while 1,325,804 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
