76,541 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to to 76,541.

The number of cases increased 594 from yesterday, when there were 75,947 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 699 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,151 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 3 from yesterday, when there were 6,148 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 7 new deaths.

Statewide, 55,162 people have recovered from the virus as of July 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 4,073,243 cases, and there have been 144,780 deaths — while 1,210,849 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
