LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 66,173.

The number of cases has increased 297 from yesterday, when there were 65,876 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 343 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,975 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 3 from yesterday, when there were 5,972 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 0 new deaths.

Statewide, 52,841 people have recovered from the virus as of July 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 2,908,164 cases, and there have been 130,080 deaths — while 906,763 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
