61,409 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 61,409.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 179 from yesterday, when there were 61,230 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 146 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,853 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 7 from yesterday, when there were 5,846 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 3 new deaths.

Statewide, 49,290 people have recovered from the virus as of June 19. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 2,291,353 cases, and there have been 120,106 deaths — while 622,133 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
