58,870 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 58,870.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 121 from yesterday, when there were 58,749 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 224 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,656 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 4 from yesterday, when there were 5,652 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 36 new deaths.

Statewide, 42,041 people have recovered from the virus as of June 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,927,428 cases, and there have been 110,028 deaths — while 500,849 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
