LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 47,138.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.
The number of cases has increased 382 from yesterday, when there were 46,756 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 430 new cases.
The state says there have been 4,551 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.
The number of deaths has increased 25 from yesterday, when there were 4,526 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 133 new deaths.
Statewide, 22,686 people have recovered from the virus as of May 8. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."
In the U.S., there are 1,321,223 cases, and there have been 79,058 deaths — while 212,534 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
