46,756 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 46,756.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 430 from yesterday, when there were 46,326 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 680 new cases.

The state says there have been 4,526 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 133 from yesterday, when there were 4,393 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 50 new deaths.

Statewide, 22,686 people have recovered from the virus as of May 8. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,297,549 cases, and there have been 77,744 deaths — while 198,993 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
