40,399 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 40,399.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 1,137 from yesterday, when there were 39,262 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 1,052 new cases.

The state says there have been 3,670 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 103 from yesterday, when there were 3,567 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 160 new deaths.

Statewide, 8,342 people have recovered from the virus as of April 24. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,034,884 cases, and there have been 60,316 deaths — while 117,114 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
