Looking for a furry friend to hang out with for the day? The Humane Society of West Michigan's program Dog's Day Out" is the perfect way to take a dog out of the shelter on an adventure, without the commitment of adopting or fostering a pet.

Dog's Day Out is a program where volunteers can "check-out" a dog for a two-hour period for a field trip. Common outings include hikes, picnics, a trip to the drive-thru, and car rides. Todd went to the shelter to take Bella out for the day, and they had a blast going to Chow Hound, going through the McDonald's drive-thru, and going for a winter car ride.

This program gives shelter dogs a chance for new experiences and gives insight as to how they will behave outside the shelter setting.

The Humane Society of West Michigan will provide volunteers with all the tools they need to take care of the dog while they're out of the shelter.

Dog's Day Out is also a great way for dogs to gain exposure to potential adopters, so taking pictures and video to post on social media are encouraged!

The following times are available to take out a dog:

  • Tuesday-Friday: 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm
  • Saturday: 11am-1pm or 1pm-3pm

There is a suggested donation of $20 to take a dog on a field trip, but it's not required.
