The ultra-popular smoothie got a makeover in a BIG way in 2020! If you scroll through Instagram you’ll find over 2 million posts with the hashtag #smoothiebowl, plus entire accounts dedicated to this fresh food trend, because not only do they taste great - they literally look like a piece of art!

A smoothie bowl starts with a hearty thick blend of whole foods, ingredients like frozen fruits, veggies, and other healthy option add-ins like avocados, oatmeal or yogurt. In comparison to a typical smoothie that you would drink with a straw, the staple of a smoothie bowl has a thicker texture, like frozen yogurt. The base goes into a bowl and then the fun happens - you can artfully decorate your delicious bowl with a variety of toppings, from simple berries to granola to dark chocolate chips to chia seeds, the options are never-ending here.

Some other benefits - Smoothie bowls contain more fruit and less liquid, which makes for a more filling meal replacement. Also, you are eating your bowl with a spoon rather than drinking a smoothie through a straw, which encourages you to slow down and practice being a more mindful eater, since smoothie bowls can’t be gulped down on the go!
