This time of year it's easy to forget about protecting our skin.

Dr. Kristi Hawley, Board Certified Dermatologist at The Derm Institute of West Michigan, 6750 Kalamazoo Ave SE Suite D, says you should keep a few things in mind throughout the winter months.

To prevent dry skin, take shorter showers in cooler temperatures and moisturize your damp skin right away when you get out.

Also make sure you're using gentle soap, preferably without a fragrance and avoid over exfoliating.

Most importantly, make sure you're still applying SPF 30 or higher to your face daily and look for sun screens that include titanium and zinc.

The Derm Institute of West Michigan is also offering Vitamin B12 shots right now that help boost your energy, mood and even sleep better.

In the fall of 2020 the Derm Institute will be opening a new building in Caledonia near 68th and Kalamazoo.
