WYOMING, Mich. -- As the weather continues to heat up, Spectrum Health wants to make sure your kids stay safe as they head outside.

Wednesday 520 students at Wyoming West Elementary walked away with a brand new helmet.

The school was selected to receive free helmets after the Hundsonville Rocket Cheer team raised nearly $2,000 to buy helmets for kids who may not have been able to get them otherwise.

Injury prevention experts from Helen DeVos Children's Hospital taught the kids safe places to ride, what to know when they're riding a bike and how to wear a helmet properly.

As a reminder when wearing your helmet make sure it's two finger over your eyebrows, two v's around the ears and two fingers under the chin strap.

NOTE: Today's helmet give away was just for the students at Wyoming West.
