LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A deputy with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and a 73-year-old Kentucky man were taken to the hospital following a crash Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 3:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near the  49 Mile Marker in Lawrence Township.

The Kentucky man was reportedly traveling west on I-94, lost control of his truck, crossed the median and went airborne, according to a press release from Michigan State Police. The deputy was said to be traveling eastbound,  saw the truck coming his way and swerved, crashing into a ditch.

Police say the deputy was treated and released from Bronson Hospital.

As of Sunday evening, MSP says the truck driver was listed in critical condition.
