BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A man was rescued after authorities say he drove his car into the river early Sunday.

It happened in the area of Dickman Road and Capital Avenue SW around 12:45 a.m.

When officers with the Battle Creek Police Department arrived on scene, they say the driver was out of the vehicle and floating down the river.

Police say they could hear the man screaming that he could not swim and that he thought his ankle was broken.

An officer was eventually able to get into the water and pull the man to the riverbank.

He was taken to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment but the extent of his injuries remain unknown.
