Squirrel leaves thousands without power in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Roughly 4,700 Consumers Energy customers are dealing with power outages Sunday.

It happened just after 8 a.m. and knocked out power to many areas along I-196 in the Eastown and Heritage Hill neighborhood.

Consumers Energy tells FOX 17 a squirrel got into a substation, causing the power outage.

Crews are currently working to restore service and expect power to be back on by noon Sunday.
