PORTLAND, Mich. — A minor fuel spill into the Grand River in Portland has been contained posing no further threat to the area, according to dispatchers in Ionia County.

Sheen in the river was reported in the area near the intersection of E. Grand River Avenue and Maple Street in downtown Portland around 2:15 Sunday afternoon.

Crews deployed a boom into the river water to soak up the gasoline. It’s unclear at this point how the fuel got into the water.

Authorities say there is no threat to the public or the river.
