KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- A standoff that kept police waiting most of the night ended peacefully around 4:40 a.m. Monday in Kalamazoo. No one was hurt, though the incident began with the suspect threatening his roommate with a knife.

According to the alleged victim, Isis Smith, 36, who spoke with FOX 17, the sequence of events in a home on Mill Street near Stockbridge Avenue began around 7:30 p.m. Sunday as the suspect began drinking and acting belligerent Smith stood up to him. He struck her and threatened Smith with a knife.

Smith's children, who were present, were unhurt, but somehow the pets were hurt.

When police arrived, the suspect, 43, refused to come out of the home and threatened the officers if they came in the house. Police just waited him out, obtained a search warrant and assistance from the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team.

While police acted on the search warrant, the suspect was arrested.

Smith described the relationship between her and the suspect as initially romantic, but it had developed into just a roommate situation.
