KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Thousands of people were expected to fill downtown Kalamazoo Sunday for the annual Bronson Children's Hospital 5K run and walk.
The race kicked off at 1 p.m. in the Bronson Methodist hospital parking lot at the corner of John and Lovell Streets.
A brief awards program also took place at the end of the race.
Event organizers say the 5K brought out both competitive runners and families who want to help support children's health.
Proceeds will help raise money for additional programs and services for the children's hospital including a new video camera system that would allow families to see their child from the hospital.
Bronson Children's Hospital is the only children's hospital in the Kalamazoo region offering specialized care to its young patients.
Sunday's event raised $143,000.
