KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Officers with Kalamazoo Public Safety were able to rescue two residents from an apartment fire late Tuesday night.
The fire broke out at an apartment above Jack’s Party Store on E. Stockbridge. When officers arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from one of the apartment windows, and a resident was screaming for help.
The officers were able to grab a ladder and get that person to safety. When they went back up to clear the building, they found another resident inside a second apartment. That individual was rescued as well.
The business was not damaged in the fire, and the American Red Cross is now assisting at least one of the residents.
