HOLTON, Mich - A Muskegon County dog owner says their rescue puppies were taken from their kennels in her front yard, with only their dog tags left behind.

The gossip in the Holton area raising concerns for this owner, saying  they may not have been the only dogs taken Saturday night.

Theresa Jones lost Junior, a lab, and Lilly, her red-nosed pit bull, Saturday night somewhere between 4:30 and 7:00 PM. Their kennels are hidden behind a large bush, and her home set way back on a dirt road.

“As far as I know their collars were still on, but the tags were laying next to the kennel cages,” said Jones.

Jones said there is only one explanation for their mysterious disappearance.

“This had an ugly feeling right from the beginning. It just didn’t feel right to me. The people at the store said there were several other people that morning looking for their pets. It seemed like people were specifically looking for pit bulls.  The only thing I could think of for my little girl [Lilly] is that they would use her as a bait dog,” said Jones.

Jones filled her Facebook page with pictures and videos of Lilly and Junior, hoping someone will see them and help get them home.  It’s already gotten more than 160 shares online.

“You know you look like a bad parent because they are gone, but then it was like I have to no matter what it makes me look like. I have to get it out there. The more people that know might have saw something that looked funny. I want them [Lilly and Junior] home,” said Jones.

Jones filed a report with the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department, and her post even reached a Bounty hunter from 1st Assured Bail Bonds.

“Our company 1st Assured Bail Bonds had recently helped 6 or 7 dog owners. The way the story has transpired it really does seem like somebody did come and take the dogs as opposed to them just running loose,” said Ben Calkins, bounty hunter with 1st Assured Bail Bonds.

The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department told FOX17 news that they are not aware of anyone stealing dogs around the county. Jones said sometimes a mother knows best. Jones is hoping if someone knows something out there they will say something.

“I just feel hurt that it could happen. I don’t know what else to say besides that,” said Jones.
