KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Police arrested three people from Kalamazoo early Saturday morning after an officer said he noticed their suspicious vehicle in the same area where he heard six gunshots.
When the officer arrived at the intersection of Belford and Vernon Streets, the scene where shots were fired, he noticed two of the suspects trying to flee the vehicle. The officer tried to make contact with the suspects but the vehicle sped away.
Shortly after, the vehicle was stopped and searched. Police found a .40 caliber handgun in the car that matched the same .40 caliber shell casings found in the 1900 block of Belford.
The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
Officers say their investigation found that the front seat passenger, a 25-year-old, is the one who fired the shots. They arrested that person for carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
The backseat passenger, a 26-year-old, was arrested for violating parole.
All three are in custody at the Kalamazoo County jail.
