WYOMING, Mich. -- More details are being released after a series of fires and thefts in Wyoming Tuesday morning.
Wyoming Police say that a 34-year-old man from Muskegon is in custody and is being evaluated after a busy Tuesday morning.
Things started about 6:20am at the GS Fireworks store on 44th Street near Burlingame. Crews responded to find the store completely engulfed in flames. Crews were able to get the flames knocked down by about 8:00am.
Shortly after, police were called to an apartment in the 1500 block of 44th Street, near the fireworks store. Callers told police that a man had jumped from a balcony at the building after setting it on fire. He was confronted by a bicyclist and the driver of another vehicle. The suspect then stole that vehicle and took off down 44th Street, where he crashed a short distance away.
Police say then the man ran to two homes on Oriole SW. At the second home, he was confronted by the homeowner, but the suspect was able to set a fire at that home and steal another vehicle. Everyone got out of that home unhurt.
Police then found the suspect driving north on Burlingame and was able to disabled it at the intersection with 36th Street. There, the man was taken into custody.
Police do not know the suspect's motive and he is currently undergoing a medical evaluation. They also don't know if the fireworks store fire is connected to the suspect, but that fire is being investigated as an arson.
Two Wyoming officers were evaluated by medics, but no one was deemed injured.
We'll have more details when they become available.
