MUSKEGON, Mich. –  Police say they have a “person-of-interest” in custody following the weekend shooting death of a Muskegon teen.

Naethon Darnel Sims, 17, was killed in the shooting that also wounded two others, including Sims’ brother.  Those two teens suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The three teens were found shot and lying in a yard in the area of Isabella Avenue and Madison Street near Sheldon Park around 8:00 p.m. Saturday.  Sims’ mother, Kerri Sims, said her son had just celebrated his 17th birthday last week.

Family and friends of Sims gathered at a makeshift memorial Sunday night near the site where the teen was killed. During the candlelight vigil, attendees signed balloons, placed flowers and shared memories of Sims.

The name of the person-of-interest has not been released and no charges have been filed at this time.  Anyone with information is asked to call Muskegon Police at 231-724-6750 or Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
