GR Pride Festival takes on new meaning

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Pride Festival is in its 28th year, but in the wake of the Orlando shootings, the festival’s meaning to the LBGT community may be greater.

The four-day festival starts off Thursday with a talk by author Ryan Berg and a cocktail hour at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Friday is highlighted by the second annual White Party at Rumors.

The major events in the festival is the street fair on Ottawa Avenue between Michigan Street and Lyon Street (Saturday noon to midnight), a concert on Calder Plaza featuring Steve Grand and Deborah Cox (Saturday 3 p.m. to midnight, $20), and a block party at 33 Sheldon Avenue NE just north of Fulton Street (Sunday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.).

The festival is presented by the Grand Rapids Pride Center.
