GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A crossing guard in Grand Rapids was hit by a car Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at the intersection of Griggs Street and Madison Avenue SE just before 8 a.m. The guard was watching students heading towards Dickinson Elementary.
Officials with the Grand Rapids Police Department said a vehicle traveling east on Griggs turned north on to Madison and struck the 75-year-old crossing guard in the knee as she stepped onto the curb.
Police said the woman suffered only minor injuries and sought her own medical treatment.
The 26-year-old driver was ticketed for failing to stop for a crossing guard and driving on a suspended license.
