MUSKEGON, Mich. — The Muskegon Heights Police Department is taking steps towards keeping children safe in the presence of firearms.
Beginning May 23, Muskegon Heights Police Department is teaming up with Project ChildSafe, the nationwide firearms safety education program, to distribute 200 free firearm safety kits to local residents.
Chief of Police Dr. Joseph E. Thomas, Jr. says they are re-instituting the program to keep young children from accidentally harming themselves and others. Thomas also adds the initiative is also for keeping bad people from having immediate access to weapons belonging to law-abiding citizens.
The kits will be available Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Muskegon Heights Police Department located at 2715 Baker Street.
