Police: Man dies after being struck by Detroit People Mover

DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say a man has died after being run over by a Detroit People Mover train.

Police say 53-year-old Michael Whyte was struck Sunday night at the downtown elevated rail service’s Times Square station. Police say he was stumbling on the platform, fell between two cars of the stopped train and was dragged when it resumed moving.

The death was deemed accidental.

People Mover service, halted amid the investigation, resumed Monday evening.

City spokesman John Roach tells The Detroit News there appeared to be “no operational or mechanical issues” involving the train leading to the death.
