Finding Chevy his Forever Home

KENTWOOD, Mich. – As FOX 17 continues our Forever Home series, every other week we feature a child in our state’s foster care system, hoping to find a loving family.  Thanks to our viewers, nearly everyone we have featured is now adopted.

Chevy, 13, is a sweet-natured seventh grader who is easy to get along with. Now in middle school, he hopes that after nearly six years of moving between foster and group homes, he can finally have parents of his own.

Explaining the rules of dodge ball to those of us playing at Sky zone Trampoline Park on Tuesday, Chevy was a good guy to have on your side.

“Here!” Chevy yelled as he passed his teammate a ball.

Right off the bat he did flips: he is a natural athlete who likes rollerskating and long-boarding.  He also plays point guard in basketball.

“I shoot most of the shots, but pretty much my main goal is to try to get our teammates open for a good shot,” he explained.

Chevy said one of his favorite things to do is horseback riding: something he regularly gets to enjoy at the moment.

“I just like love riding horses,” said Chevy.  “We get to brush them and give them a bath. It’s calming.”

Talking with FOX 17, Chevy counted the years on his fingers he has been living in foster care. As he looks toward his future, Chevy said he has a law enforcement career in mind.

“I’m thinking about being a K-9 [handler],” Chevy said.

To Chevy, having parents to help guide him there would be a slam dunk.
