The young survivor of the Kalamazoo shooting rampage will undergo surgery on Friday, May 13, to replace part of her skull that is missing.
The information comes in a very brief update posted to Abbie’s recovery page, adding “she is looking forward to it.”
Abbie Kopf is the 14-year-old girl who survived a gunshot wound to the head in the incident on February 20. She had been pronounced dead at the hospital, however her mother says she put her head to Abbie’s chest and heard a heartbeat. At that point she asked a nurse to check her again, and they found a pulse.
Weeks later, Abbie was released from Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.
She will continue rehab for the foreseeable future as an outpatient. You can follow her recovery at a Facebook page created by family.
